"Unbreakable pipe" - PVC-O pipe
PVC-O, the Chinese name is biaxially oriented polyvinyl chloride, is the latest evolutionary form of PVC pipes. The pipes are manufactured through a special orientation processing process. The PVC-U pipes produced by the extrusion method are axially stretched and radially stretched. Stretching causes the long-chain PVC molecules in the pipe to be regularly arranged in the biaxial direction, thereby obtaining a new type of PVC pipe with high strength, high toughness, high impact resistance and fatigue resistance.

(1) Super toughness:
Biaxially oriented polyvinyl chloride (PVC-O) pipe has very outstanding toughness, so it is called “unbreakable pipe”. This is because after molecular orientation processing, a lamellar layered structure is formed. If a crack occurs due to defects and point loads, the layered structure will hinder the crack from passing through the material. When the crack passes through each layer, the crack propagation is effectively suppressed due to the reduction of stress concentration.
(2) Higher impact strength
Compared with PVC-U water supply pipes, the impact strength of PVC-O pipes is increased by more than 10 times after biaxial stretching.
(3) Design stress is higher
Due to the outstanding strength and toughness, the 50-year safety factor of MRS45 and MRS50 PVC-O materials can be expressed as 1.6 or 1.4143, so the design stress for PVC-O pipes can be as high as 28MPa and 32MPa.
(4) The pipe wall is thinner and the cost is lower:
Since PVC-O pipes are axially and radially stretched from the original PVC-U pipes, the wall thickness of the pipes is thinner. Comparing the wall thickness of PVC-O and PVC-U, PVC-O water supply pipe can reduce the wall thickness by 35%-40% compared with PVC-U water supply pipe, which greatly saves materials and reduces costs.
